Porcelain veneer treatments are very popular options that have helped many individuals restore the function of their teeth and improve the overall appearance of their smile. Crafted to blend in easily with surrounding teeth and produce natural-looking, long-lasting results, a porcelain veneer is adhered to the front and sides of a tooth to conceal visible concerns such as gaps, chips, deep stains, and others.
At Coronado Dental Group, cosmetic dentist Jimmy Wu, DDS is committed to helping patients achieve a healthy and beautiful smile. As a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he is extensively qualified and skilled with treatments such as porcelain veneers, as well as many other state-of-the-art techniques designed to enhance smile aesthetics.
Who Is a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
Ideal candidates for porcelain veneers typically desire correction of aesthetic issues such as:
- Discolored teeth
- Mild misalignment
- Teeth that are chipped, fractured, or broken
- Gaps among the teeth
Good candidates for porcelain veneers should have relatively healthy teeth and sufficient tooth enamel. These factors can help ensure the veneers are bonded to a strong and secure foundation. If the teeth are affected by more severe levels of decay, damage, or misalignment, treatments such as dental crowns or Invisalign® may be recommended.
How Is the Porcelain Veneers Procedure Performed?
The porcelain veneers process often begins with preparing the affected tooth surface by slightly modifying its structure so it can accommodate the veneer as naturally as possible. An impression of the tooth is made with innovative CEREC® technology so the veneer can be custom-crafted to fit in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Once the veneer is constructed from durable porcelain, it is bonded to the front of the affected tooth and color-matched to resemble the adjacent teeth.
With the use of onsite CEREC® technology, many patients are able to have the veneers crafted and placed in the same appointment. If several veneers are required, it may take at least two office visits. With proper at-home care and routine dental check-ups each year, porcelain veneers can last for decades.
How Can I Maintain My Veneers?
It’s important to maintain porcelain veneers to preserve satisfactory results for as long as possible. Patients are advised to care for their veneers in a similar way to their normal oral hygiene routine – brush twice a day, floss daily, and continue with semi-annual dental visits and cleanings. Additionally, patients who clench or grind their teeth may benefit from a night guard to prevent veneer wear and damage.
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?
On average, a single porcelain veneer can range from $1,000 to $3,000; however, the cost of porcelain veneers can vary from patient to patient. Factors that contribute to the overall cost include:
- The number of veneers placed
- The materials utilized
- Whether the treatment is performed as part of a Smile Makeover or other procedure that involves a combination of treatments
